Harmful Ingredient

Phthalates(dibutylphthalate =DBP, dimethylphthalate =DMP, diethylphthalate =DEP)

  • Reduce testosterone and sperm quality
  • Early puberty in girls
  • Cause a broad range of birth defects

Parabens (propylparaben, isopropylparaben, butylparaben and isobutylparaben)

  • Can act as estrogens and disrupt hormone signaling
  • Impaired fertility in women

  • Was first banned in the Food and Cosmetic industrie , new research says it can be used with a maximum to 1%, but should not be used by Breast Feeding and in a very low amount by Childreen.ECOCERT does not except  Phenoxyethanol in cosmetic formulations.

Triclosan and triclocarban

  • It lowers the level of thyroid hormone and testosterone, which could result in altered behavior, learning disabilities, or infertility
  • It’s also been linked to increased allergic reactions

Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)

  • Is a very drying and irritating solvent and dehydrator

DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (Monoethanolamine) & TEA  (triethanolamine)

  • hormone-disrupting chemicals that can form cancer

Formaldehyde (DMDM Hydantion& Urea Imidazolidinyl)

  • Can cause joint pain, skin reactions, allergies, depression, headaches, chest pains, ear infections, chronic fatigue, dizziness, and loss of sleep

FD&C Color Pigments

  • Can cause depletion of oxygen in the body and death

Mineral Oil (petroleum)

  • promoting acne
  • Slows down skin function and cell development

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

  • Can alter and reduce the skin’s natural moisture factor

Propylene Glycol (PG) and Butylene Glycol

  • Penetrate easily the skin and can weaken protein and cellular structure

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)

  • Damage eyes, depression, labored breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation

Imidazolidinyl Urea

  • Combined with water this releases formaldehyde, which is used as a preservative in many products including shampoo, hand wash and deodorant.   Formaldehyde can irritate the eyes, nose and throat and may trigger asthma, allergies and headaches.

PEG 150

  • PEG 150 Distearate can contain harmful impurities, including: Ethylene Oxide, known to increase the incidences of uterine and breast cancers and of leukemia and brain cancer

Potassium hydroxide

  • Can develop blisters, burns, severe pain and/or permanent scars if the skin comes into contact with potassium hydroxide. The European Union classifies Potassium Hydroxide as toxic or harmful and limits workplace exposure.

The best Way to read the Ingredient list:

  • Anything with PEG (polyethylene glycol) and PG( ethylene glycol)
  • Anything ending in ‘eth’ indicates that it required ethylene oxide (a petrochemical) to produce e.g. myreth, oleth, laureth, ceteareth
  • DEA (diethanolamine), MEA (ethanolamine), TEA(triethanolamine)
  • Butanol and any word with ‘butyl’butyl alcohol, butylparaben, butylene glycol
  • Ethanol and word with ‘ethyl’ – ethyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, ethylene dichloride, EDTA (ethylene-diamine-tetracetatic acid), ethylhexylglycerin
  • Any word with “propyl” – isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, propyl alcohol, cocamidopropylbetaine
  • Methanol and any word with ‘methyl’–  methyl alcohol, methylparaben, methylcellulose
  • Parfum or fragrance – 95% of chemicals used in fragrance are from petroleum Sodium laureth/lauryl sulfates and other
